Middle English Resource Page

The goal of this website is to compile a battery of online resources on Middle English literature that would be particularly useful for students approaching Chaucer or Middle English literature in general for the first time.

While there are many websites already devoted to compiling resources on medieval literature (some of the most important are linked below), all of these seem geared toward vastly different audiences -- some non-scholarly, some for experts in the field, some addressing the entire medieval period at large, some addressing extremely specific elements thereof. My hope was to identify the particular links from each of these sites that seemed best suited to my very specific audience (relatively new students of Middle English and their instructors) and to organize them in a way that would make them easy to find and use.

This page is not intended to be a comprehensive resource. Rather, I see its function as primarily supplemental, that is, to be used in conjunction within an already-existing university course. The site should be useful both to the curious student who is interested in exploring some of the most important texts, figures, and historical contexts of the period on his or her own, as well as to the instructor who desires to use the site as a supplement more particular sorts of course assignments.

Many of the links in this site come from the more comprehensive sites linked below.
